I had a cup of tea yesterday and there was a quote on the tag which read: The difference between a flower and a weed is a judgment. My mind immediately thought “Right, who am I to decide? I generally accept social norms.”
But then I started to think beyond flowers and weeds to major life experiences. One of the greatest sources of unhappiness in life can be the difficulty we have in accepting things as they are. When we see something we don’t like, we wish it could be different. We’ve judged it as bad, rather than saying, “It’s not bad or good, it just is.”
Instead of judging something as bad, what if we simply accepted that this is the way the world works? Maybe we can try to better understand why. Embracing “why” may give us the clarity we are looking for and thereby eliminating some of the pain. What are we supposed to learn from every self-proclaimed weed we have in the garden of our life right now?
With Gratitude,
Beth
