Friday’s Quote

“He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree.” Roy L. Smith

I spent the latter part of yesterday in Trenton celebrating Christmas with UrbanPromise Trenton. It’s such a fun day that includes hearing the true meaning of Christmas in the chapel, an elaborate no-holds-barred dinner, and finally ending with music & dancing.

Yesterday I was reminded of what really truly matters. Pastor Gilmer impressed upon us that Christmas is not in the big fancy package-although it is incredibly enticing. By donating this extraordinary feast, Meta reminded us all that it is in the giving, not the receiving that we find Christmas. And bearing witness to all of these parents joyfully watching their children dance and sing with this palpable look of absolute and perfect love – I got it. It took me until 12/20, but I got it.

If that wasn’t enough, I had the privilege of chatting with the Bishop, who was also there. He reminded me that our “marching orders” are simple – LOVE. Love our neighbor, love our friends and enemies, love ourselves. Go forth and love everyone!!

So if you’re waiting to find something special under the tree, you might be looking in the wrong spot. You don’t have to wait until Tuesday for Christmas. As of yesterday, I feel like I already celebrated.

Wishing All of You the Very Best,
Beth
