Fired Up

Summer, as we know it, ended yesterday. Most people are back to work or school. Some of the leaves have started to change color and the mornings are now refreshingly chilly. We are about to enter the season of warm sweaters, raking leaves, fresh-squeezed apple cider, and s’mores by the fire.

The fire is quintessential fall for me, whether it be the fire pit or fireplace. I love the smell of the burning wood, the dancing flames, the crackling sounds, and of course the warmth it generates. Getting the fire started used be the hard part for me. I would strategically place a few large pieces of firewood then jam newspaper underneath and light the newspaper. The paper would burn like a champ but not the firewood.

Finally, I learned what I was missing—kindling. The firewood was too big; I needed to start smaller. Once the kindling was on fire, eventually the firewood would get hot enough to burn. Maybe you’re struggling to get something started in your life. Remember, the newspaper was too small and the firewood was too big. The step I needed was kindling. Once you get a few sticks burning, the firewood will catch and you can enjoy a roaring fire! Start small; be patient. It will pay off in the end. You got this!

With Gratitude,

Beth
