Friday’s Quote

“To escape fear, you have to go through it.” Richie Norton

Fear and panic are definitely the overriding emotion I am hearing about from friends and family as well as in the news. If this describes your current mental state then maybe today’s post will help.

Fear feeds off of time. When we indulge fear with the luxury of time, it progresses into panic. So how do we suffocate fear by decreasing the amount of time it has to expand and intensify? Well if we have given it time, then we have become a passenger in our own car; we have given the steering wheel to fear. We have to muster up the courage to face our fear head on. How do we do that?

Courage is looking right at fear. Call it by name: COVID-19. What are you afraid of, contracting it? What has your exposure been? Did you self-quarantine? Are you healthy? Did you visit the CDC website or is it that you have allowed yourself to be overexposed to the media? The media will ignite our fears. What is the likeliest % that you’ve been exposed? It’s small, right? If fear is “winning” in your emotion category then you are are allowing your fight or flight response to override your rational thought.

So here are a few questions to stop fear quickly once it starts: Is this likely or probable? If yes, what can you do about it? If no, then MOVE ON! Do NOT give it the time it needs to fester and grow. YOU ARE IN CONTROL, not the fear. Remember that!

With Gratitude,
Beth
