Friday’s Quote

“What you seek is seeking you.” ~ Rumi

Such a simple quote, yet so hard to accept as a truth for us; we can accept it for others maybe, but not for us. As a matter of fact, its seems like it happens for everyone but us! We say things like. “Why can’t I have the big salary, the beach house, the cool job, the fancy car, the incredible spouse, the expensive vacations, etc.” So we might argue that Rumi got it wrong—but did he?

I believe this 13th century Persian poet was trying to enlighten us to a truth we are having a hard time seeing. Think of something you really want and perhaps you’ve wanted it for quite some time. You’ve dreamt about it. You think about it every day, but it just hasn’t happened for you. If “what you seek is seeking you,” then why hasn’t it happened yet?

What Rumi was saying, I believe, was that it’s a two way street. What steps have YOU made toward meeting this desire? The desire has already manifested in your thoughts, it is already seeking you. The next step is yours. Do you want to be in a relationship? Then start dating. Do you want a promotion? Then talk to your boss. You can’t win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket. What you seek is seeking you, but you have to meet it half way. Today, agree to take one step forward. Just one step. What you seek is seeking you…help it find you!

With Gratitude,
Beth
