SQUIRREL!

Yesterday, I was watching a webinar and the speaker stopped his presentation to let us all know there was a squirrel on his porch. As a matter of fact, he has a camera—the squirrel-cam—dedicated to watching the porch should there be any wildlife sightings. It was a little odd, but fun nonetheless.

Of course it made me immediately think of Dug, the talking dog, from the movie Up. I can completely relate to Dug who will be mid-sentence when, out of the blue, he blurts out, “SQUIRREL!” Is it a lack of attention, a distraction, or plain old procrastination? I’m not sure, but I find myself metaphorically blurting out, “SQUIRREL,” a few times a day—everyday! Ask my family, they will support this claim. So how do we avoid, “SQUIRREL!” moments?

First, we need to plan our day, then execute the plan, making sure to tackle our top priorities first. In the plan should be really good goals with today’s date as the deadline. Deadlines are helpful and important. Do not multitask!! It’s proven to make us less efficient. Avoid distractions like email, phone, social media, etc. Being well rested is also helpful, so a good today really starts the night before. I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know, I’m just reminding you in case you’re having a few too many, “SQUIRREL!,” moments like me! And, finally, be kind to yourself if you find yourself offtrack. Refocus and jump back in. It’s all good!

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
