A Block of Wood and You

The last few days have been very exciting here. We had a new roof put on our home. Starting at about 6:45 am each morning, my house was covered in men and tarps. We had incessant banging which resulted in incessant barking from my 3 dogs. And finally , as if that wasn’t enough, we had a mess of all the old shingles that were being torn off the house. Good times, as they say!

The company that replaced the roof brought a dumpster to remove all of the refuse. I can’t even imagine the weight of all of the trash that is in this bin, so you can imagine how surprised I was to see this small piece of wood that was placed strategically in front of the front tires to prevent this trailer from rolling down my driveway and into the street. My guess is that it’s a 4×4. I didn’t pick it up, for obvious reasons, but I’m sure a small child could hold this piece of wood without straining himself. Yet, that 12 inch block of wood is stopping easily over 2,000 lbs. of weight from moving at all! Rather impressive, don’t you think?

Well, we all have these 4×4 blocks in our own lives too, don’t we? They aren’t big, but they are stopping us from moving forward; they are stopping us from being wildly successful. They are little blocks of fear and we let them keep us from moving forward. We think they are bigger then they really are. The truck is at a disadvantage because it’s an inanimate object, but we are not! We can overcome our fear if we want. Today, I want you to have a visual of how big your fear actually is—it’s as small as this 4×4. And the only thing stopping you from moving forward is whether or not you let that little thing stop you. So what’s it going to be? You or the fear?

With Gratitude,

Beth
