Cleaning House

Back when the quarantine was first imposed, I decided to paint my bedroom. It sounded like a simple task, but I quickly realized that painting starts out as a very big task of cleaning house. Under the bed, alone, is a task in and of itself. Pushing my way past the accumulation of dust to rummage through all that was stored under there, to ask one simple question, “Stay or go?” In the beginning, the task seemed daunting (and filthy), but quickly I was filled with a happiness and pride that comes from feeling a sense of accomplishment. Cleaning and decluttering is incredibly cathartic.

Decluttering our house is important, but so is decluttering our mind. So how do we go about decluttering our mind? There are many ways but her are a few simple hacks to clear away all the “dust” that has accumulated over time due to our oversight.

First, think in terms of positive and negative. What negative thoughts have entered our minds over the past year, especially during a pandemic? Are we perseverating on negative self-talk or talk about our situation or condition? We should begin to be aware of anything we say that has a negative slant and try to rephrase it as a positive. Second, do we have any ‘wrong people” in your life right now? It’s time for them to go. Unfollow and unsubscribe. And third, now that we created more “space,” by removing who is wrong, who is right? Add them and think about how we will engage with them going forward. A “right” person is inspiring, inclusive, and encouraging. We need that right now!

With Gratitude,

Beth
