Friday Quote

“The sky has never been the limit. We are our own limits. It’s then about breaking our personal limits and outgrowing ourselves to live our best life.” Unknown

I spoke at Princeton University on Wednesday and I shared the fleas in the jar experiment; perhaps you have heard it. Fleas are put in a jar and they immediately jump out. If a lid is placed on the jar, they jump and hit the lid for a while but then condition themselves to jump just below the lid to avoid hitting it. Later, when the lid is removed, surprisingly the fleas never jump out. They have accepted their limitations. Furthermore, when they have offspring, the baby fleas only jump as high as the parents; they too never jump out of the jar.

At some point, all of us have had a “lid” placed on us. Maybe it was by a teacher, a coach, a boss, or even a parent. But today, I want you to know: THERE IS NO LID! Jump for goodness sake, JUMP! Those limits that we believed are about as untrue as the world is flat! We need to start jumping not only for ourselves but also for our children; they need to know —THERE IS NO LID!

Happy Friday!!
Beth
