Friday’s Quote

“No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you go, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying.” Unknown

At least once a week, I field a call from someone who is exploring the possibility of using a coach. Some come in as referrals and others have simply found me through the internet or social media. I absolutely love everything about these free 30-minute calls because I know what it took for this person to muster up the courage to send the email about scheduling this free session. Additionally, I know what it took for this person to actually show up on the call to talk about whatever it is they are struggling with at the moment. These calls take courage and they require this person to face their fears, neither of which is easy.

Here’s the interesting part, and the part that all of us can learn from: the hardest part isn’t finding me or calling me, although that definitely challenges most people’s comfort zone; no, the hardest part is the next step which is actually moving forward and taking action to make the change—and that’s where most people get stuck. Taking real actionable steps is the hardest part. We all love to TALK about change, we do, but acting on it is only where the really brave tend to trod.

“And the trouble is when you don’t risk anything you risk more.” Erica Jong

Today, take a moment to think about something that you have talked about forever, but haven’t acted on. It’s not about big, bold, audacious steps, not at all. It’s about that very first step. That first step is far scarier than any other step and most people won’t ever take it. Talking about it isn’t doing it—not by a long shot. Will you be brave today and take the first step? I’m here for you. Read both quotes again and agree to take the first step. In the long run, you’ll be so glad you did!

With Gratitude,

Beth

P.S. When I am on the Peloton, the instructors do shout-outs to all the people who are completing milestone rides like 500 or 1,000, but my favorite is when they shout out to the people who are on the Peloton for their very first ride. The first one is the hardest, it’s all about showing up.
