“It’s not the lack of resources that cause failure, it’s the lack of resourcefulness that causes failure.” Tony Robbins

When I turned 17 I was so excited to finally be able to drive. Unfortunately, my family only had two cars so a car was only available to me if it wasn’t needed by my mom and even then it was tricky. My mom’s car was an ugly green Ford Galaxy 500 that was temperamental, to say the least. To start this old battleax I had to pop the hood, insert a screwdriver into the carburetor, then I could return to the car to start the engine. It’s basically how all of my kids start our cars today—NOT!

If I wanted to drive, they were my options. I had to be resourceful. As I look back on my childhood, I am incredibly grateful we had very little means because that is where I developed my resourcefulness. “No” was very often the answer but I always tried relentlessly to figure out a way to make it a “yes.”

I guess growing up with very few resources helped make me scrappy. I almost never accept “no” as an answer; I always believe there has to be another way. My lack of resources made me who I am. As I say to my daughters regularly now— “don’t be a damsel in distress, figure it out, be resourceful!” What would happen if YOU didn’t accept “no” as an answer?

Have a Great Weekend,
Beth
