Friday’s Quote

“Every man is guilty of all the good he did not do.” Voltaire

This quote is followed by another, also by a man who goes by one name: “To whom much is given, much will be required.” (Luke 12:48). Our giving and doing good in the world should not only surface when the big year-end holidays arrive. But since we are at that time of the year, let’s chat about it.

This morning I asked myself, “What good did I not do?” OK, if I am being honest, that question stung. I thought of all the things I didn’t do and why I didn’t do them. All of my answers, and some excuses, didn’t make me feel so good about myself.

‘Tis the season for giving, but let’s look beyond year-end. What good have you not done? What is your talent (not money) that could be used for good at some non-profit? Imagine what would change if you agreed to lend a hand. I don’t know which quote I like more, Voltaire or Luke. They both reminded me how blessed I am and that giving back is the least I can do. With Gratitude,
Beth
PS I am following suit by volunteering my professional skill set tomorrow at a non-profit in Camden.
