Friday’s Quote

“We are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously.” Sophia Bush

How many of you reading this right now thought, ‘Wow, a masterpiece. Yes, I definitely have used that word to define myself’? Alternatively, how many of you immediately resonated with the phrase, “work in progress”? Why is it so difficult to see the “masterpiece,” yet the “work in progress” can be seen as clear as day?

Oh, how we love the negative! We latch onto the self-deprecating thoughts like we are made of Velcro yet we dismiss the positive thoughts like we are made of Teflon. Why is that? A small part of this thought process can be attributed to being humble, but the majority of it is just an unhealthy internal response—it’s our inability to accept the good about ourselves.

There is no way to change this overnight, but today we can become aware of both the masterpiece and the work in progress. Can you see the masterpiece now? I hope you’re nodding. Can you say, “There is a part of me that is absolutely a masterpiece and I’m proud of that.” Always being a work in progress is exhausting. Today we are simply pausing to acknowledge the masterpiece. Well done!

With Gratitude,
Beth
