Friday’s Quote

“Reslience is about being able to overcome the unexpected. Sustainability is about survival. The goal of resilience is to thrive.” Jamias Casio

I am starting to believe that the beautiful broad spectrum of the human experience is really all about resilience and when we embrace the difficulties, we can finally live a great life—in part, because we will have eliminated the resistance.

Over a lifetime, a lot gets thrown at us. Some more than others. You may be suffering through something right now, or perhaps it’s someone you love. The need for resilience seems to be an ongoing demand. The word literally means “to bounce back.” The opposite of resilience is rigid, stiff, and inflexible. How can we intentionally become more resilient so we can live a happier life?

When we resist or fight our difficult situations we are making things more challenging. Being resilient isn’t about being invincible; it’s about finding ways to accept and adapt. And we aren’t born with resilience either, we develop it over time. Think of yourself like a tree in a storm. As the winds grow strong, the tree starts to sway with the wind. The tree doesn’t get weak, it simply knows it will survive the storm far better if it sways with the wind. And that is true for us, too. Resilience requires our flexibility and acceptance. There isn’t just one storm, more are coming. Let’s start swaying with the wind now.

With Gratitude,

Beth
