Friday’s Quote

“I dont know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.” ~ Albert Schweitzer

Regardless of your job, and I mean any job, including being a parent, it’s important to differentiate between “What you do,” and “How you do it.” “What you do,” is your job, your responsibilities, and the results you obtain doing it. “How you do it,” makes all the difference in the world, and I don’t mean your physical actions.

Look at any one of your many jobs—maybe the one that isn’t going so great right now—and ask yourself, “Am I results driven or relationship driven?” Is your head so far down in your work that you’ve forgotten that your results are at the expense of your relationships and that’s a very costly exchange in the long run.

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” Muhammad Ali

Today, think about not what you do, but how you do it. Ask yourself, “How am I serving?” The word, “serving,” may not sit well with all of you, but it’s the cornerstone of great leadership, not to mention great marriages. When we come from a place of serving others, we get out of our own head and away from our own agenda. We pave the way for great things to happen. Serving is a choice. It can be how you do your job. It’s your choice.

“Only a life lived in the service to others is worth living.” Albert Einstein
