Good For The Soul

Yesterday I had the unbelievable pleasure of visiting my 88-year-old aunt and her soon to be 90-year-old husband in Springfield, PA along with my two sisters and my sister-in-law. Both my aunt and uncle are as sharp as a tack and we sat around for hours chatting about everything from my dad and General MacArthur to the Philadelphia Phillies and the Corona virus. Everything about this day warmed my heart, so much so that I spent the rest of the day smiling.

I gifted the book to my aunt because she’s in it—twice! I wrote about her on page 23 as she told me amazing stories of my dad that I had never heard. And she appears again on page 190 in one of only four photos in the book. She’s a little girl then standing with my dad before he enters WWII. As she looked at the old photo she rattled off the names of all those in the picture including an old girl friend of my dad’s!

Although it took us almost 3 months to get this day planned, I’m so glad we did. I can’t even explain how full my heart is from this visit, and I believe my aunt’s is too. This stuff is good for the soul. What are you doing that is good for the soul? Who should you be visiting or calling? Good for the soul is a laudable target. These are the events after which we say to ourselves, “Why don’t we do this more often?” It’s time.

With Gratitude,
Beth
