Did you ever have a great idea for a business, only to stop yourself with thoughts like, “I don’t have enough money,” or “I don’t have the expertise,” or “It’s probably already been done”?

Most people seem to think that entrepreneurs have “all their ducks in a row”; They have money, influential people and connections, and a great idea. This is rarely the case. 
Take the case of Kevin Plank, the founder of Under Armour. He was a walk-on football player at theUniversity of Maryland. In the brutally hot summer of 1995, he hated how heavy his sweat-soaked, cotton T-shirt would get during practice. He said, “There has to be a better way!”

He went to fabric stores in Maryland and discovered the wicking ability of synthetic fabrics. With $450, he bought fabric and had a prototype created. From there, he went on the road selling his new idea out of his car, and the rest, as they say, is history. Under Armour is currently a billion-dollar company and Kevin Plank earns over four million dollars a year.

Plank did not have millions of dollars, he did not have influential friends, and he was not the valedictorian at Harvard. He was a man who recognized a problem and spent his own hard-earned four hundred fifty dollars to try and solve it. How is he different from you or me? What did he have in 1995 that we do not have now? We know the answers to these questions.
