Yesterday, I had the great fortune of attending the Wreaths Across America stop at Montgomery High School. This incredible caravan of volunteers begins in Harrington, Maine at the Worcester Wreath Company (read the story of how it all started by one man – Morrill Worcester below). Although wreaths are sent throughout the world, this part of the caravan ends at Arlington National Cemetery this coming Saturday morning where over 200,000 donated wreaths will be placed on the graves of fallen soldiers.

Wreaths Across America’s main mission is encapsulated in their slogan: Remember-Honor-Teach—and they certainly delivered on that yesterday! We had the privilege of giving a standing ovation to thank those who served in Vietnam. We sobbed as Gold Star Families shared the stories of the loss of their loved one. And we heard a Montgomery High School social studies teacher share the painful story of the day he lost his revered commander in Fallujah, Iraq to an IED.

I, for one, take for granted a lot of the freedoms I enjoy on a daily basis. I forget who is keeping me safe both here and overseas. I lose sight of the daily sacrifices that are made on my behalf—especially those who pay the ultimate sacrifice. Today I would like to thank Morrill Worcester for your amazing efforts on behalf of those who no longer have a voice – they will not be forgotten.
