Slashing Your Own Tires

How are those New Year’s Resolutions coming along? It’s been exactly 5 weeks since the ball dropped in Time Square and usually, by now, over 90% of all resolutions have been abandoned. Does this statistic include you?

If you have fallen off the wagon, here are a few tips to help you get back on track. Just because you haven’t been successful in the first 5 weeks doesn’t mean you should throw in the towel on the remaining 47! Go back to the drawing board; what went wrong with the plan? Did you even have a plan? Was your plan too lofty or unrealistic? Can you agree to start again here on Feb. 5th? We can all agree that Jan 1 isn’t the only day we can start something, right?

Today we hit the RESET button. We get a fresh start from here, but the reset won’t do any good if we don’t really assess what went wrong to begin with. Say it out loud and write it down. Pick a date at the beginning of March to revisit this again. Remember, “Giving up on your goal because of one setback is like slashing your other 3 tires because you got one flat.” Unknown. Come on, we got this!

With Gratitude,
Beth
