Friday’s Quote

“Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way.” ~Booker T. Washington

What a week this has been! Holy moly! I was in California this week—finally presenting live again. This was my first live presentation since January of 2020. After my presentation, Doug and I headed to Napa Valley for a few days of fun.

We had the pleasure of visiting one of Doug’s new favorite wineries— Seven Apart. What an incredible experience, “from soup to nuts,” as my mom would have said. The winery was stunning, the wine making was state of the art, the people were so exceptional, and the wine was off the charts! Jan, the person in charge of hospitality, explained to us where the name Seven Apart came from. The owner learned from his favorite professor in college to find seven things that set an investment apart. If you could identify seven items, it was a good opportunity.

So what if we applied “Seven Apart” logic to ourselves? What are the seven things that make you and I stand apart at work? If we don’t have seven things, maybe it’s worth thinking about what they could be. And if this sounds like a lot, maybe it’s best if we simply revisit Washington’s quote—”Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way.” Revisit the common things first. The opportunity for excellence is right at our fingertips.

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
