Good Bad Habits?

Can a bad habit be a good thing? “Rarely,” is the correct answer and this is one of those, “rarely,” times. At the start of Lent on March 2nd, I gave up cursing—I know, I’m not supposed to tell you what I gave up, but my purpose is not for you to praise me in any way. Interestingly enough, prior to about 5 years ago, I rarely cursed and I never-ever cursed in front of my kids. What happened 5 years ago? They started cursing! And that’s where my bad habit began.

It’s funny how bad habits are so much easier to form than good ones. All along I wasn’t pleased with myself, but I never really did anything about it until now. Right out of the gates, it wasn’t going well, and I wondered how successful I would actually be in these 40 days. And then, on March 4th, my friend Bill posted a birthday fundraiser on Facebook for HomeFront. Immediately I knew that was the answer to breaking my bad habit—or at least holding me accountable. I texted Bill and said, “I’m donating $2 for every curse word I say in Lent to HomeFront!” Sadly and happily, I currently owe HomeFront $52 and Bill is thrilled with my lack of success, LOL!

What bad habit do you have? I can’t be the only one who needs to correct a bad habit. Is it eating unhealthy food, lack of exercise, working too much, postponing your goals and dreams, always being on your phone, procrastinating, etc.? What if you, too, tied your bad habit to a good cause? I don’t want to curse anymore, but while I am making my adjustments, I can smile knowing it’s going to a great cause! 2 weeks down, 4.5 weeks to go!
