“If you got a dream, chase it, because a dream won’t chase you back.” ~ American country music singer-songwriter, Cody Johnson, from “‘Til You Can’t”

My dear friend, Jen, sent me these lyrics about a week ago after belting out the words to this song like a rockstar while driving in her car — actually, that’s just how I envisioned it, she simply texted me the lyrics, LOL. It’s a great visual though, isn’t it? Did you think of a time when you had belted out the lyrics to your favorite song in the car with a little carpool karaoke? Me, too.

Not only do I love the lyrics she sent, but I love the song title as well—we have a lot to unpack here, but it’s simple. Have you ever had a dream chase you? I can answer that for both of use—Nope! And dreams shouldn’t chase us, they shouldn’t be easy. We have to really want it. The 2nd best part of the dream is the actual chase. The first is obviously when the dream “comes true,” but “comes true” is a misnomer that doesn’t even adequately describe the journey. Dreams never simply “comes true,” it’s a hell of a lot of hard work and commitment. Maybe the best part of a dream come true is actually the person we become for having chased the dream in the first place? Mic drop.

It’s definitely sad and maybe even a little disheartening to read these words: the dream will NEVER chase you (or me). But it’s also eye-opening! It’s a wake up call. The dream will NEVER chase either of us. But Johnson added an inspiring title to cap things off: ‘Til You Can’t. In other words, he’s cheering us on, telling us to keep going, we can do it! We can!!

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
