Lifting the Fog

“Beyond the fog lies clarity.” ~ Anonymous

Last night, my son and I went out for drinks to catch up. On our way home, we walked along the river. It was such a dreary night. It had rained and the fog hung over the city like a dark blanket. Only the bottom halves of all of the skyscrapers could be seen. It was as if we were looking at a drawing of the New York City and the top half had been erased—half of the Empire State Building and half of the Freedom Tower was all that was visible of both.

As I looked at this altered skyline, I thought to myself, “I know it’s still there, but I cannot see even a glimpse of the upper halves of these building!” And that, of course, made me think about you and me. Just because it’s not visible doesn’t mean it’s not there. It’s there, alright, we just simply can’t see it. Once the “fog” lifts, the buildings will be “whole” again.

What outstanding characteristic, attribute, or behavior has been missing from your life? It used to be there, but now it’s missing. Do you remember when you were brilliantly confidant? Or when you were inquisitive? Or simply authentically you? Or maybe carefree? What about fearless or open-minded? Today, I want you to realize it’s just the “fog.” You and I still possess these qualities, they’re just hidden. We can tap into them on command though! So what do you say? Should we lift the fog?

“The fog always lifts.” ~ Unknown
