Motivational Monday

Happy MLK Day! I always like to honor why we have off, not just that we have off. So today we can think about Dr. Martin Luther King. It still amazes me that he was only 39-years-old when he died.

So many quotes were attributed to him; some that we can recite from memory like, “I had a dream,” and others that aren’t so familiar. Today, I’m going to share two of his quotes to inspire us to be better people. First:

“Keep feeling the need for being important. Keep feeling the need for being first. But I want you to be the first in love. I want you to be the first in moral excellence. I want you to be the first in generosity.”

In our efforts to be excellent, I want Dr. King’s quote to remind us that love, moral excellence, and generosity should be our cornerstones.

The second quote is this:

“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”

In a world filled with hate, and we don’t like to think WE are the haters, but we are, myself included. How can we love more? Look around, who are you hating? Ar you hating a political party? A neighbor? A race or ethnicity? A boss? A colleague? A stranger? The truth behind hatred, as King explains, is that it is a burden WE bear, not them.

Our action step today is simple: Think of someone you hate (individual or a collective group). FEEL that hatred in your body. Where do you feel it? Is it in your heart? OK, now think of someone you love, maybe even adore. It can be a person or a pet. FEEL that love in your body. Where do you feel it? Is it in your heart? OK, which felt better? Now you get it.

Let’s GOOOOOO! WE GOT THIS!
