An Angry Mob. Really?

I got scolded the other day by my dear friend, Ron. He wanted to know why I made my Motivational Monday post about a dumb garden in Hoboken when, just hours before, the Philadelphia Eagles secured a spot in the Super Bowl? OK, valid point. I deserved that one. Sometimes I feel like I talk about sports too much, but there was so much to share about Sunday’s games that I decided to go in a different direction altogether. Maybe not my best decision, so back to sports for a moment.

Sunday night, at about 7 pm, The Empire State Building changed its customary white lights, to Eagles green. I ran out to take a picture. I couldn’t believe that New York would “allow” Eagles green to be so prominently displayed in their very proud city. After the The Kansas City Chiefs win at 10 pm, I ran outside again to see if the Empire State Building would acknowledge the AFC winner and they did not disappoint—all red with the antennae lit up in gold. Even-steven. Whoever was in charge of the lights on Sunday, I tip my hat. Well done!

Well, all of New York did not feel the same way. There was a firestorm of hate. I saw words like treacherous, traitorous, and unforgivable. A mob descended on the building demanding the lights be changed. Seriously? And look, I get it, there is no way Philadelphia would light up anything in Giants blue and red. But you know what, maybe they will think about it now. Maybe one man (or woman) in the Empire State Building decided hate wasn’t the way. Think about your hate. Is it getting you anywhere? Is it making you feel better? Lighter? happier? Probably not. It was three hours of green lights—that’s it. Define your hate. Is it worth it? Hate injures the hater not the hated. Hate has a price that we pay.

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!

P.S. I know the responses are coming, I’m prepared. But let’s keep the hate out of them, for you and for me.
