I went for a walk yesterday to get some exercise. As I headed up Washington Street, the bustling main artery of Hoboken where the majority of businesses are located, a random sign caught my eye—and I wish I had taken a picture of it. It was a very basic A-frame sign that was positioned right outside a store, but in the direct line of vision for every walker, and it simply stated this: Beyoncé was not built in a day!

Maybe you didn’t see that coming. Me, either. I laughed out loud! “Rome?” Yes. “Beyonce’,” not even a little bit, but it got me thinking. Beyoncé was not “built” in a day and neither will you nor I. She was a work in progress, just like you and I. Is she finished growing and improving? I’ll bet if you ask her, she would say, “Heck, no!” The only thing that may be different about her and you (and me) is that she really had a very specific target she was aiming at.

Today, we shall repeat the wise words of my local business owner: Beyoncé was not built in a day! Today is our reset day. We get to ask ourselves, “What is my target? What am I trying to attain (be, do, have)?” If our answer is, “Pop Star,” then what are we doing about? Our actions have to be congruent with our goals. If I looked at your calendar, would your goal be obvious to me? Beyonce was NOT built in a day, but she wasn’t built by accident either.
