Friday’s Quote

“We suffer more often in imagination than reality.” ~ Seneca

Mic drop! Yes! Oh my goodness, yes! We should all have this quote posted on our bathroom mirror so we see it (and read it) multiple times a day. We should have t-shirts made for ourselves, and consider a tattoo (only joking about the tattoo). This quote goes hand in hand with, “Don’t get ahead of yourself.”

More often then not, I hear people talking about all of these horrible things that might go wrong. It’s one long, “But what if X happens?” True, but what if it doesn’t? Rarely, O.K. never, does anyone share with me all of the amazing things that could possible happen—no, they always tell me all the things that fall under “death and destruction.” Unfortunately, that’s how our mind operates, it’s the fight or flight response, and that response is only helpful in a very small percentage of our situations.

Everyone is always looking for a quick hack, so today I have one for you! Your imagination is amazing—and cruel. And it’s cruel because we allow it to be so. It’s like a misbehaved child, they will remain so until a strong parent steps in and corrects the unacceptable behavior. Fun fact here: you’re the parent to this (currently) cruel imagination. You can change what it thinks right now! You can ask yourself, “What if I imagined the best possible outcome? What if I centered my imagination here and didn’t allow these other unhelpful thoughts to dominate my thinking?” That’s a great question. What would happen then?

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
