Pulling Back The Curtain

Tomorrow, I will be at Princeton University, and this time my presentation will be about blindspots (no post tomorrow). You might not believe working on your blindspots is important, but ask any quarterback about his blindside and he’ll tell you—it’s really important! Unfortunately, we don’t have a left tackle (or right) protecting us.

One major blindspot we can all tend to have is being right or, put another way, not wanting to be wrong. You may be thinking, “This isn’t me,” but you’d be amazed at how often it is us. For instance, have you ever said, “I could never…,” or “I can’t…”, or “I’m too old to…”? This is us coming from a very closed minded state and I see it with my clients all the time. This is an, “I’m right (about myself) mindset,” but that’s EXACTLY what got us to where we don’t want to be! And it’s not the mindset that will get us to a new and better place.

Today, think about how many things we’ve shut down with, “I can’t, couldn’t, shouldn’t, won’t” mindset. What if we can, could, should, and would? We are where we are because of this blindspot, which is cleverly disguised as a “truth” about ourselves. This “truth” isn’t necessarily true, but it also was created by us to protect ourselves from failure. We shut it down before we even tried. It’s a blindspot that is brilliantly disguised as a truth! Today, we are pulling back the curtain on this ugly blindspot.

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
