“Be careful how you’re talking to yourself because you’re listening.” ~ Lisa Hayes

Today is about self love. What we say to ourselves matters and we rarely correct ourselves. We simply allow the abuse to go on and on without saying, “Enough! This self-deprecating talk has to stop.”

Let me give you some examples, just in case you think this doesn’t pertain to you. Have you downplayed your success or deflected a compliment by putting yourself down? Have you criticized your appearance? Have you beat yourself up over your weight? Have you put yourself down about your job or your career? I’m not trying to shame anyone, I’ve done it, too, and it’s wrong and unhealthy.

What is a better thought? What is a more loving thought we could say to ourselves? Take a few minutes now and intentionally say the best possible thoughts you could say to yourself—the same thoughts you’d say to someone you love dearly. What does that conversation sound like? Is it different than the usual unkind battering we give ourselves? What would someone say if they could hear the thoughts we think about ourselves? Would they approve? Probably not, so let’s make some changes. Let’s start loving ourselves more and beating ourselves up less. Are you with me?

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!

Beth

P.S. If you hear someone else saying something self-deprecating—stop them! Let’s change the dialogue for everyone! Life is hard enough, we don’t need to be our own worst enemy.
