Weather the Storm

I just received a text from a friend and she used the word “resilience,” —she even quoted the definition, which got me thinking. Of course we all would like to be more resilient or maybe even think we already are. But today I simply want us to give the act of resilience, and the lack thereof, a few minutes of our time.

If I think of resiliency outside of human beings, I think of “weathering the storm” and trees, in particular. We’ve all seen videos of trees during a storm, bending but not breaking. They somehow manage to take the beating the storm inflicts upon them by allowing some give and not being perfectly rigid. It’s amazing to watch. And when the storm has passed, very often the tree looks as if nothing has happened. It’s miraculous, really.

Today I want us all to think about our own resiliency. Is there something we have decided to stand firm on, remaining ever so rigid, that if we softened just a bit, we might find life a little easier? I’m not asking you and I to compromise on our values or our character, but if you’re like me, sometimes I can really dig my heels in. That’s what I am asking us to look at today. Is this the thing we really want to remain rigid on? Give it some thought, but remember this: exercising our own resilience is for us, our own peace, and happiness.

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
