Tonight, We Dance!

Monday night, Doug and I started dance lessons at Fred Astaire Dance Studios – Hoboken. Doug had bought a package of lessons at the Princeton studio right before Covid hit, so we unfortunately couldn’t use them then, and then we moved. We kind of wrote it off as money down the drain—until this studio recently opened up in Hoboken! Serendipity!!

When we were walking down to the class, I told Doug, “I’m nervous.” He was incredulous and asked, “Why would you be nervous about this?” I explained that I knew I had to dance with the other instructor, not Doug. I didn’t know what the class would be like. I didn’t know the dances. And I guess, I simply didn’t want to look foolish. I knew I just had to get there and get the first class over with, but it didn’t eliminate my many nerves.

Fast forward—the first class ended and we were all smiles! We had SOOOO much fun. We learned the rumba and the hustle. We aren’t entering any competitions any time soon, LOL, but it was so joyful! We messed up, we stepped on each others toes, we laughed, we cried, we gave it two thumbs up! So the lesson is: Do things that scare you. Yes, the things that make you nervous or fill you with trepidation. It’s good for the brain, and maybe, more importantly, it’s ultimately good for the soul.

Let’s GO!! WE GOT THIS!
