Do you know what kind of investment a major league baseball team makes in a player besides money? Have you ever thought about it? Let’s take a pitcher, for example. At a bare minimum he answers to his head coach, his pitching coach, his trainer, his nutritionist, his doctor, his mental performance coach, and maybe even his therapist. Did I miss anything?

Why do they invest so much? Because they want the pitcher to be as successful as he possibly can be. If he is pitching at his best then the team wins, right? And winning earns money for everyone. They leave no stone left unturned. How does that apply to you and me? We aren’t coveted athletic talent in the major leagues.

You and I are our own team. We are responsible for our own success. If we want to be at the top of our game, what are we proactively doing to get there? Maybe we do need to hire a coach to really ignite our process and get to the next level? Think of yourself as the general manager—what does your prized pitcher (you) need to succeed. I assure you, there is no MLB team that says, “Leave him alone, he’ll figure it out.”
