The Brooklyn Bridge

Yesterday, I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge with my daughter and her boyfriend. This was the second time I’ve walked across in the past month so I felt like an official tour guide. When we reached the middle of the bridge, where one of the three majestic granite towers is positioned, I pointed out that the bridge was built in 1883. How incomprehensible is that? 1883—nothing in modern construction was available to them, and they’re building this in the middle of the East River.

I share this because it’s a new year—a fresh start—and I want it to be amazing for both of us, maybe even incomprehensible! We let so much hold us back from reaching our full potential, and most of it isn’t even real, it’s in our heads. I needed a visual for all of us to have available to us at those moments when we think we can’t do it. A visual that reminds us that the incomprehensible has already been done!

Our action step for today is to simply agree that if they can build the Brooklyn Bridge in 1883, then our goal isn’t as daunting as we thought it was. WE CAN DO IT! We simply can’t let our mind get in the way and allow us to quit, or worse—never even begin!

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
