A Leisurely Stroll

Awhile back, when Doug and I were at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California, I noticed something glaring about Doug and I. If you’ve never been to a tournament like this, there are many tennis courts throughout the venue where you can watch tennis, not just center court. As you surf the app, you can see what matches are good, and go watch them.

So Doug and I were doing just that, leaving Court 1 to get to Court 2 when I noticed it. I was watching everyone else around us causually walking to wherever they were going, but not us! No, we looked like we had just entered a speed walking contest! And that made me laugh out loud because that’s how we always walk, we never stroll, amble, or saunter. Those words (and actions) are foreign to us. It’s always a sprint. And watching the peaceful strollers of the world saunter through the venue gave me pause. Why do we sprint?

The short answer is: that’s who we are. It’s not that we don’t stop to smell the roses, we do, just very quickly then off to the next thing. It’s neither right nor wrong, it’s simply us. Could we slow down? Absolutely, but it’s not organic for us. So why am I sharing this? For two reasons. First, awareness of who we are and who we are not is a big key to happiness, otherwise we will spend a lot of time trying to be someone we are not. And second, having grace for everyone who is not like us, they don’t want what we want; it isn’t right or wrong, it’s just them, so let’s stop wishing they’d be more like us. It’s an awareness day.

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!

P.S. I mentioned April was going to be an abundance and gratitude month, so look for my additional posts on social media for what I’ve noticed each day. Add your own, too!
